This website provides public access to the genealogical research I have undertaken since 1965, as well as detailing sources of information of use to future researchers. In some cases the family trees are largely complete, usually to the fourth generation of that family in Australia. Others may take a different format, and focus on varying aspects of a family line, rather than consisting of detailed genealogical tables.
Like the research itself, this website is a work in progress, and new information will be added regularly. For privacy reasons, details of living persons are not included without permission, although names only will be found if they are in the fourth level of descent. Ownership of photos and documents, sources of information and the research of other individuals are acknowledged, where these details are known.
Every effort has been made to ensure the information recorded is accurate, but researchers are always encouraged to verify facts for themselves. Similarly, I welcome being informed of any errors of fact, or additional information not included. The sole intention of my research is historical accuracy, to tell the stories of the generations who came before, without moral or value judgements.
You will find here a lifetime of research which I am happy to share, but I request that this website is acknowledged should material be used elsewhere.

Understanding the website:
~ Individuals have been ascribed a number which represents their generation and order of birth in any particular family line. Using my Schubert family line as an example:
1. SCHUBERT Johann Christian [first ancestor in this family to come to Australia]
1.8 SCHUBERT Carl August [eight child of #1; second generation]
1.8.6 SCHUBERT Christian August [sixth child of #1.8; third generation]
1.8.6.5 SCHUBERT Sigmund Alexander [fifth child of #1.8.6; fourth generation].
~ Family pages include Four Generation Summaries and links to the first individuals in that family line. In some cases there will also be links to documents relevant to the families pre-immigration.
~ Individualsโ pages will include some or all of the following in this order: a list of children; and links including biographies, historical articles, published writings, published press references, documents and memorabilia; and photographs. In most cases photographs are not duplicated and images of individuals can also be found in group photographs of the previous generation, of siblings and their families, or other relatives.
~ The names in brackets after numbered individuals are the surnames of spouses (in capitals for married women whose details are listed under their spouses).
~ Individuals can be accessed from the search fields or by clicking on their number/name on the menu pages.
~ Documents (PDFs) and other multimedia are available to be downloaded.
~ Be aware that on many pages it will be necessary to scroll down to access all the material available. All images can be enlarged by directly clicking on them or by using the options icon top far right, and utilising the zoom function.
Two reflections on genealogy, by authors unknown:
We are the chosen. In each family there is one who seems called to find the ancestors. To put flesh on their bones and make them live again, to tell the family story and to feel that somehow, they know and approve. Doing genealogy is not a cold gathering of facts but, instead, breathing life into all who have gone before. We are the story tellers of the tribe. All tribes have one. We have been called as it were by our genes. Those who have gone before cry out to us: Tell our story, So, we do.
History is not there for you to like or dislike. It is there for you to learn from it. And if it offends you, even better. Because then you are less likely to repeat it. Itโs not yours to erase. It belongs to all of us!
